Question: What is the weirdest tradition in Taiwan?

People intentionally get hit by explosive fireworks.

The Annual Yan Shui Beehive Festival in Taiwan[1] is one of the most dangerous festivals in the world. The festival originated from a custom back in the 1800s when an epidemic ravaged the town. The locals called out Guan Gong, the god of war, to help alleviate the disease and they did this by setting firecrackers along the road. The epidemic soon disappeared and since then, the tradition continued.[2]

People who attend this festival wear cardboards and helmets as protection and literally stand there waiting to get hit. Beehives are giant cylinders that contains rockets that when ignited, explodes on all four directions.

Here at the Beehive Festival, the more times you get hit the better.
